MY RATING: 4 Starts
* I received an ARC copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, so don’t expect less than that, I will always give my honest opinion, like it or not *
So this was one of those books that was not available for request on Netgalley, you could just “wish” for it and they would decide if you could keep it or not, and I was lucky enough to be able to read this amazing book.
This book, as you can read at the beginning of my review, or, if you are reading this on Goodreads, in the information box, is a Middle Grade book, it is a Fantasy book for children with a lot of adventure… and I can tell you something, I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did, I mean, normally it is kind of difficult to me to like a book right at the beginning of the story and this book just “captivated” me in some way I can’t explain, I just wasn’t bored at the beginning, which happens a lot, it could be a slogan actually – “Orlanda gets bored right at the beginning of a book” – and that didn’t happen at all, it was kind of interesting actually.
In this book you can find some very interesting creatures, you can find a lot of fantasy of course, you can read about mythology and it is really cool, believe me… everything is really well described in this book, especially thinking that this is a Middle Grade book… normally Middle Grade books bore me, and this wasn’t the case.
As you probably read at the beginning of my review, when I said that this book was sent to me by Netgalley, and when I said that I would be totally honest about it… that’s what I am doing right now. There was ONE LITTLE THING that I didn’t like about this book… and that little thing was the main character… I mean, I liked all the concept of the book, I like the idea of this book being a cultural book, with a lot of cool stuff about Japan, with the main character being japanese, BUT I MEAN, the main character was kind of annoying sometimes, I didn’t hate the main character, honestly, but sometimes I just wanted the main character to be less childish… I know it is a children book, and the main character is a teen/child, but I guess you understand my point of view.
Another thing that I totally LOVED and I am really obsessed with in this book is the cover… let’s just take a moment to appreciate this book cover please… let’s all take a minute and let’s love this amazing cover! I will totally buy the hardcover edition when this book comes out in January, I will… I am really in love with the look of this book, so expect to see pictures of it in my Instagram in 2016 (and, by the way, if you don’t follow me on Instagram, which is actually a BOOKSTAGRAM, just check @blog.myescape and follow me please, I am always updating it with my recommendations and hauls and reviews and all of that cool stuff because I am a great person).
